Show full summary
  • Black youth and families: Highlights alarming trends, including a 149 percent increase in suicide rates for Black youth ages 10 to 17 from 2007 to 2023 and that in 2023 about 1 in 5 Black high school students seriously considered suicide. It calls for more outreach and programs to reduce stigma and encourage help seeking.
  • Researchers and funders: Calls for increased NIH and National Institute of Mental Health level research on Black youth mental health and more funding and resources for Black researchers.
  • Schools and community groups: Pushes for funding and implementation of evidence-based interventions in schools and community settings, including public-private and faith-based partnerships and programs like L.E.T.S. Save Lives.
  • Behavioral health agencies: Supports keeping the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration independent and not folded into a new Administration for a Healthy America.
