Pay for federal workers during shutdown
If enacted, the bill would let Treasury pay excepted federal employees during funding gaps starting in fiscal year 2026. You would be covered if your agency head designates you as an excepted employee. It would also cover contractors who support excepted work and are required to work during the lapse. Funds would come from the Treasury as needed ("such sums as are necessary"). Agencies would charge those payments to their regular appropriations once Congress enacts regular or continuing appropriations. Agency heads could not obligate these automatic funds while continuing appropriations for the same purposes are in effect.
