Aviation Medication Transparency Act of 2025

Creates a public FAA medication list for medical certification that shows which prescription and over-the-counter drugs are allowed, prohibited, or linked to temporary duty limits. The bill would require the FAA to publish the list within one year after enactment, consult pilots, controllers, medical schools and unions while drafting it, provide it to applicants when they first seek medical certification, and update it annually.

Pilots, air traffic controllers, and trainees would get a single, user-friendly source to check whether a medication affects medical certification and to see any minimum or average time they might need to limit duties.
Doctors and medical examiners would get FAA contact information and explanatory guidance to help them prescribe treatments while considering certification rules.
Accredited aviation schools and certified bargaining representatives would be part of the drafting process, giving frontline organizations input into how medications are evaluated and listed.

Medication list for pilots and controllers

If enacted, the FAA would publish a public list of medications allowed or prohibited for airmen and air traffic controllers. The FAA would post the list on its website within one year after enactment and update it at least yearly. The list would cover prescription and over-the-counter drugs, show any drugs labeled "Do Not Issue", and note required stabilization periods if applicable. The list would be written in plain language, given to pilots, controllers, and trainees when they first seek medical certification, and include contact details for doctors to ask questions.
