Extend battlefield acquisition program

If enacted, the bill would extend the statutory authorization period for the Battlefield Acquisition Grant Program by changing the authorization year from 2028 to 2035. This would keep the acquisition grant authority in law through FY2035 but would not itself provide new funding.

More battlefield grant money, higher caps

If enacted, the bill would authorize $2,000,000 to be appropriated each fiscal year through FY2035 to provide grants for battlefield interpretation modernization and battlefield restoration. It would also raise the statutory numeric cap in subsection (c) for those two grant programs from 50 to 75. Congress would still need to appropriate the money before grants are paid. The authorization sets a funding ceiling but does not itself transfer funds.

Studies of historic war sites

If enacted, the bill would require the Interior Secretary, through the National Park Service Director, to study U.S. sites tied to the French and Indian War (1754–1763) and the Mexican‑American War (1846–1848). The studies would identify sites, assess significance and threats, and recommend preservation and interpretation options, including possible National Park System designation. The Secretary would consult Governors, affected Tribes, local governments, the American Battlefield Trust, and other preservation groups. A report of the results would be sent to the appropriate congressional committees within two years after funds are made available to do the studies.
