Summary
Creates a dedicated USDA research and mitigation fund for Spotted Wing Drosophila. This bill would add a new program to the Plant Protection Act to support research and mitigation for the invasive pest that damages strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, plums, and cherries. It would direct APHIS to award grants and cooperative agreements to carry out those efforts.

Grants to help fruit farmers fight pest
If enacted, the bill would create a Spotted Wing Drosophila Research and Mitigation Fund at the Department of Agriculture. APHIS would run the fund and decide who gets grants or cooperative agreements. The bill would authorize $6.5 million each year in the year of enactment and for the next four years. Funds would support research and projects to reduce damage to berries, cherries, and other affected fruit crops.
