Stuttering care for Medicaid and CHIP kids
If enacted, Medicaid would have to cover speech therapy for childhood-onset fluency disorders, including stuttering, for people under 21 starting January 1, 2029. The coverage would include real-time audio-video telehealth and must follow parity rules so limits are no stricter than other speech therapy. Starting January 1, 2029, CHIP would also have to cover these same services for targeted low-income children and, in States that elect it, pregnancy-related CHIP for pregnant women. CMS would add screening measures by January 1, 2028 and Medicaid well-child visits would include screening for ages 2 through under 6 starting January 1, 2029.
