Fewer rules for charity auctioneers
Beginning August 12, 2026, auctioneers who work for a charity are not treated as paid solicitors. This applies whether you are paid or you volunteer, as long as you do not directly receive or handle donations for the charity. You do not have to register with the Secretary of State, post the $15,000 bond, file campaign notices, or submit paid‑solicitor reports. If a referendum petition is filed within 90 days after adjournment, the law takes effect only if voters approve it in November 2026. If approved, it starts on the governor’s official declaration of the vote.
