When these labeling rules start
The law takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on the day after the 90‑day period following final adjournment of the General Assembly. For example, if adjournment is May 13, 2026, the date is August 12, 2026. If a referendum petition is filed in that period, the law takes effect only if voters approve it, and then on the governor’s official declaration. The rules apply to conduct on or after the effective date.
Truth in labeling for Colorado produce
The law requires honest origin claims for certain foods. It covers raw, unprocessed plants, fruits, vegetables, and fungi grown on farms, in greenhouses, or in controlled indoor farms, and sold for people to eat. Anyone who sells, markets, advertises, or distributes these foods in Colorado must not claim they were “grown in Colorado” unless they were actually grown in the state. Use of the “Colorado Proud” name or logo requires authorization from the Department. Breaking these rules is a deceptive trade practice under state law. This section does not allow private lawsuits; enforcement uses the state’s consumer‑protection system.
