Occupational therapists can do dry needling

Starting September 1, 2027, Colorado occupational therapists may perform dry needling. They must have documented skill and complete a dry needling course that meets state rules. They must get your written consent. It must explain benefits and risks and say they are not an acupuncturist. By June 1, 2027, the state sets training and supervision rules. These rules must be at least as strong as standards for physical therapists, after input from the Medical Board. When done under these rules, dry needling by an occupational therapist is not treated as acupuncture.
