K-12 funding floors and mid-year fixes

For 2025-26, the statewide total of district funding must be at least $9.998 billion. The state updates budgets mid-year using actual student counts, assessed values, and prior-year specific ownership tax. If a district’s new formula gives less than the old formula, the district gets the higher of its 2024-25 amount or the old 2025-26 amount. These rules help prevent sudden funding drops for districts this year.

Lower state K-12 funding in 2025-26

For the year starting July 1, 2025, the state share of districts’ total program is $5,363,929,334, down from $5,463,908,610. The Department of Education’s Part IV total is $7,652,531,155, down from $7,756,003,663. Of the state share, the State Education Fund provides $904,575,541, down from $1,004,554,817. Districts get less state money and rely more on local revenue in 2025-26.
