More forest projects with federal partners
Beginning August 12, 2026, the Colorado State Forest Service runs or hires others to run one or more pilot projects with the U.S. Forest Service under Good Neighbor Authority. Projects aim to improve forest health, wildlife habitat, and outdoor recreation, and supply wood products to Colorado businesses. When the state recommends watershed and forest health funds, it applies Good Neighbor Authority principles and works with water providers, governments, tribes, schools, landowners, and other partners. The law defines Good Neighbor Authority by reference to federal law so agencies and partners can use it. If a referendum is filed, these changes take effect only after the November 2026 vote is officially declared.
