Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Longer care options for young adults

Beginning July 1, 2025, Idaho courts can order extended foster care for ages 18–22, ending by the 23rd birthday. Young adults must have stayed in state health department custody until 18 and meet federal extended-care criteria. The Board of Health and Welfare can also set continued-care rules for ages 18–23, expanding the prior age limit of 21. Candidates must have received services before 18 through, or authorized by, Idaho's health department or Department of Juvenile Corrections. Continued care depends on Board rules and whether the person is an appropriate candidate.

Flexible foster licensing for relative caregivers

Beginning July 1, 2025, Idaho's health department can set separate foster-care licensing rules for relatives caring for related children. The department must judge that these rules will not endanger the child's health or safety. Separate rules do not guarantee a license.

One child services rule repealed

Beginning July 1, 2025, the law repeals Idaho Child and Family Services rule 16.06.01.010.14. The supplied source does not explain what this rule covered or how its repeal affects families.
