The Louisiana sheriffs' pension board can require employer contribution rates up to 3% above the rate in R.S. 11:103. Higher contributions add pension funding but raise costs for participating employers. When the board sets employer contributions above the minimum recommended rate, all surplus funds collected must enter the Funding Deposit Account. This rule covers fiscal years ending on or after December 31, 2008. The law does not directly change members' benefit amounts.
