Louisiana drivers get limits on disaster-based rates

Beginning January 1, 2027, Louisiana insurers face a new limit on auto insurance rate filings. They cannot use a pricing factor based solely on catastrophe or natural-disaster losses when the disaster affected only other insurance lines. The factor remains allowed in multi-line policies, which cover more than one type of insurance. The law also allows other relevant factors available when filing, including calculations that follow accepted actuarial standards for measuring insurance risk. It does not set a dollar change in premiums.
