The law limits free Port of New Orleans cruise parking to Louisiana veterans with service-connected disabilities rated at least 50%. The benefit covers the veteran, vehicle, and passengers for up to seven days. Parking is subject to space availability in the closest available designated Port-owned cruise terminal lot; outside lots do not qualify. Veterans must show a qualifying military honor license plate or Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs certificate confirming the federal disability rating. They must also show a Louisiana driver's license or special identification card to prove residency. The Port may charge its usual parking fee for each day beyond seven days. The Port must explain the exemption in its brochures and on its website.
