Care information and coordination for assault survivors

All licensed Louisiana hospitals and health care providers must offer every sexual assault survivor information about treatment under state law. They must also follow the required procedures when someone seeks treatment as a sexual assault survivor. Louisiana’s attorney general must coordinate sexual assault nurse examiner services statewide, with special attention to rural access. Legislative grants or appropriations may fund this work; the law names no amount. The Louisiana Legislative Auditor must audit advocacy services, nurse examiner programs, regional plans, forensic exam availability, and overall sexual assault services funding. The audit reviews accountability and whether funding is adequate.
