Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Higher daily pay for election commissioners

Louisiana parish board election commissioners receive $100 for each qualifying service day. Covered work includes election day, counting and totaling provisional ballots, and recounts. The rate is $150 per day only for elections approved by the Secretary of State. The parish board of election supervisors must apply for that approval. Approval is available when a large number of voters are reasonably expected to vote before election day.

Emergency extra pay ends for election commissioners

The law removes the Secretary of State’s authority to approve special emergency-related pay for parish election commissioners. That authority allowed up to $100 per election or service day for elections within one year after a governor-declared emergency. Approval previously required an application from the parish board of election supervisors.
