Higher local motor vehicle fees in Louisiana

The law raises Louisiana's general local motor vehicle office fee cap from $4.50 to $8 per service or transaction. This uniform limit replaces separate $6 caps in Orleans, Jefferson, and Calcasieu and an $8 cap in West Monroe. Local governments can set the fee by resolution only at field offices not fully funded by the state. The fee does not apply at Shreveport field offices or to getting or renewing a vehicle registration. All fee money must cover the local office's operating costs, including rent, utilities, and maintenance.
