New audit rules for homeless service providers

Louisiana homeless service providers and continuum of care organizations receiving federal, state, or local public money must accept audits on request. Requests can come from the legislative auditor, a parish president, or a funding municipality’s governing body. Providers must give the requester detailed records on housing outcomes, service delivery, progress toward goals, and public spending. Spending records must be easy to read, such as a spreadsheet. Failure to comply can lead to funding suspension or termination, subject to applicable laws and contracts. The legislative auditor can review providers and prepare reports, but must follow legal protections for confidential information.
