New Krewe of Athena plates carry fees

The law creates a Krewe of Athena plate for Louisiana citizens with passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, or vans. At least 1,000 people must apply, and the state registration system must support the plate before it is issued. The state and Krewe of Athena Carnival Club jointly design the plate, which must say “Krewe of Athena.” Plate holders pay a $25 yearly royalty plus a $3.50 handling fee per plate and the standard vehicle license tax. The royalty goes to the club’s treasurer for debutante scholarships; the state keeps the handling fee for administrative costs.
