Food makers and stores must label manufactured‑protein items clearly. If a label uses a meat word, a clear qualifier like plant‑based or cell‑cultivated must appear right next to it. In stores, these products must be kept separate from animal meat and marked with distinct shelf tags or signs. These rules apply in Oklahoma starting November 1, 2025.
It is illegal to falsely advertise or misbrand food in Oklahoma. The Department of Agriculture must investigate credible complaints about food that is mislabeled as meat. Violations are a misdemeanor crime. Licensed food manufacturers are subject to enforcement actions set by Department rules. The Department can adopt rules to carry this out. All of these measures take effect November 1, 2025.
