ODOT works with the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department to keep online True Grit Trail resources. These include a map, details on each named site, and the trail’s history. This starts November 1, 2026.
The law creates the True Grit Trail and makes the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) post route signs. The route starts at U.S. 64 at the Arkansas line and ends at State Highway 1 and U.S. 259, with a detailed path named in law. ODOT must also add informational signs, designed or approved by the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, to point to the named towns and sites, including Robbers Cave State Park and the Talimena National Scenic Byway. Signs are paid for with private money; ODOT places permanent markers only after it gets enough private funding. All of this applies beginning November 1, 2026.
