Whistleblower protections for teachers and staff

Beginning July 1, 2025, teachers and support employees in Oklahoma public schools are protected from discipline for certain disclosures and reports. You can disclose public information you reasonably believe shows a violation of the Oklahoma Constitution, state law, or rules, and report violations of state or federal law. You may make these reports without first telling your supervisor or chain of command. You can report to a supervising teacher, administrator, school board member, the State Department of Education, law enforcement, a district attorney, or a parent or legal guardian of a student directly affected. School districts must post this law where staff can see it. These protections do not allow you to share student or parent information protected by FERPA.
