3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.
Beginning January 1, 2026, electrical contractors and journeymen must complete 12 hours of continuing education in the 36 months before the license expires to renew. CE finished while a license is expired counts toward that prior 36-month window, and the license can be renewed once all requirements are met. Six hours must cover state‑adopted electrical codes and revisions. The other six hours can cover topics like wiring methods, NFPA 70E safety, motors, or other Committee‑approved trade subjects. All CE courses and instructors need advance approval by the Committee of Electrical Examiners; emergency substitutes are allowed with written notice within seven days. Providers choose the course location and may hold classes during the workday.
Beginning January 1, 2026, registered electrical apprentices must complete three hours of CE in the year before registration expires to reregister. CE taken while registration is expired counts toward that prior year, and you can reregister once all requirements are met. CE can cover codes, state electrical rules, NFPA 70E safety, Construction Industries Board rules, or other Committee‑approved trade subjects; approved contractor/journeyman CE also counts. Student apprentices, or apprentices enrolled and attending an approved course, are exempt from this CE. Apprentice CE courses and instructors must be approved in advance; emergency substitute instructors are allowed with written notice within seven days. Providers choose where and when to hold classes.
Beginning November 1, 2025, the Construction Industries Board updates its rules to match the Electrical License Act. This is an administrative change and may affect how the Board applies licensing and CE rules.
