IDs and job prep for inmates

Beginning November 1, 2025, the Department of Corrections must help inmates who plan to live in Oklahoma get ID and job papers. Within nine months before release, DOC checks if you have state ID and starts the paperwork. DOC works with Service Oklahoma to get a REAL ID noncompliant driver license; if that fails, a noncompliant ID card. DOC provides training and work records, plus a certified birth certificate and Social Security card if obtainable. You also get a resume listing your trades and proof of a practice interview, and DOC tells you if you can apply for an occupational license. You can use this help even if you already have a valid state ID or license. DOC can pay costs using inmate trust funds, DOC funds, or donations, and may set rules to carry this out.

Eligibility and resume exemptions for inmates

Beginning November 1, 2025, this help only applies to inmates who qualify for a state ID under 21 O.S. §1550.42. Some inmates do not have to make a resume or do a practice job interview. Exemptions include people age 65 or older; on medical parole or leaving a prison infirmary; leaving a DOC mental health unit; going to another jurisdiction on a warrant or detainer; returning from an intermediate revocation facility; and people DOC finds unable to work.
