Paraprofessional career program and paid student teaching

Beginning July 1, 2026, the State Board of Education can set up a career program for paraprofessionals. You do not have to join the program. If you have a bachelor's in education or education studies and have not been out of the classroom more than 10 years, you meet any extra college coursework rules under that program. Your district board may extend your existing paraprofessional contract so you can be paid for paraprofessional work while you do student teaching in the district.

Teachers with education degrees skip extra classes

Beginning July 1, 2026, teachers with a bachelor's in education or education studies who have not been out of the classroom more than 10 years are treated as meeting extra college coursework rules. This applies to getting or renewing emergency, alternate placement, or standard teaching certificates, and to related professional development.
