OPERS employer rates drop, then rise

The law sets employer payments for OPERS members. From July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2031, your agency pays 9.5% of your monthly pay, up to the annual pay cap set in state law. Starting July 1, 2031, it pays 16.5% each month, up to the same cap. Payments are based on monthly pay and limited by the yearly compensation cap.

Employer match for OPERS DC

If you are in the OPERS defined contribution plan, your employer must make the required match. The employer also sends the difference between that match and the usual employer pension payment under this law to OPERS. This rule has been in force since November 1, 2015.

Emergency makes law effective immediately

The act declares an emergency, so it takes effect upon passage and approval. The new employer rate periods begin July 1, 2026, with later changes set for July 1, 2031.
