Beginning July 1, 2026, if you plan to live in Oklahoma and qualify, DOC checks nine months before release if you have state ID and helps gather papers to get one. DOC can use inmate trust funds, DOC funds, or donations to pay for ID cards. DOC gives you job‑ready documents: training and work records (if available), a certified birth certificate and Social Security card (if obtainable), a resume, proof of a practice interview, and notice about occupational license options. Some people are exempt from the resume and interview step, such as those age 65+, medically paroled, or released from a DOC mental health unit. Before release, DOC also provides the paperwork you need to apply for a provisional driver license.
Beginning July 1, 2026, Service Oklahoma issues provisional licenses to some people with a suspended or revoked license. You can drive from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Overnight driving (12:00 a.m. to 5:59 a.m.) is only for set reasons like going to or from work, during work, school or training, worship, or court‑ordered programs. Unpaid fines and fees do not block eligibility, and no driving test is needed if your suspended license has not expired. People with certain serious convictions listed in state law are not eligible. If you commit an offense that would suspend a regular license, your provisional license is revoked; missed payments alone do not revoke it while you are on an approved payment plan.
Beginning July 1, 2026, if your Oklahoma license was valid when you were imprisoned and it expired within the last three years during your sentence, it stays valid for six months after your release. When you are released, Service Oklahoma mails a replacement license to the address you provide. Service Oklahoma and the Department of Corrections share data to make these steps work.
Beginning July 1, 2026, when you reinstate your driving privilege, Service Oklahoma charges one reinstatement fee that covers all suspensions or revocations on record at that time. Within three days after reinstatement, the agency must notify you to apply for a new driver license. This rule applies to the reinstatement fee; other legal requirements may still apply.
