Faster appeals for officer deadly-force rulings

Beginning November 1, 2025, a peace officer, correctional officer, or a person acting at an officer’s command can immediately appeal a pretrial ruling that finds their use of deadly force unjustified. The appeal goes to the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals and must be filed within 10 days of the ruling. The court gives these appeals priority and must stay the case while the appeal is decided. If no appeal is filed within 10 days, the right to an immediate appeal is waived, but the claim can still be raised at trial or on direct appeal.

Law takes effect November 1, 2025

The law takes effect on November 1, 2025. From that date, its rules apply to the people, cases, and agencies it covers.
