5 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
Beginning November 1, 2025, you get extra credits for finishing approved programs. You get 200 days for a bachelor’s, 100 for an associate, 90 for a high school diploma or GED, 80 for vocational training, 70 for at least 4 months of treatment, and 10–30 for other approved work. If you finished a high school diploma or GED in continuous county‑jail custody for your case, you get 90 credits at transfer if the jail records it on the official sentence form.
Beginning November 1, 2025, inmates earn monthly credits that cut their sentence. Each credit equals one day. Class 1 gets 0 days. If you have certain past serious felonies, Class 2 gets 22 days a month, Class 3 gets 33, and Class 4 gets 44. If you do not have those past crimes, Class 2 gets 22, Class 3 gets 45, and Class 4 gets 60. Class 3 needs at least 3 months locked up and excellent ratings; Class 4 needs 8 months and outstanding ratings.
Beginning November 1, 2025, people serving life sentences cannot get earned credits. No credits are given if the crime caused the on‑duty death of a protected officer or prison employee. You also do not earn credits while referred to an intermediate revocation facility for a probation violation. People ever convicted or adjudicated for the listed serious felonies cannot get the higher monthly credit schedule.
Beginning November 1, 2025, time you served in local jail before transport comes off your state prison term. If DOC reception delays keep you in county jail, you earn credits from your judgment date. You do not get those credits if you are convicted of a new misdemeanor or felony while waiting for transport. Time on medical leave for care not available in prison counts as time served.
Beginning November 1, 2025, DOC sets written rules and a five‑step rating scale for class levels and credits. A committee of at least three members reviews your class at least every four months. To reach higher classes, you must do assigned work or programs, keep areas clean, and be cooperative. DOC checks state and national criminal records to decide which monthly credit chart applies. Credits can be taken for misconduct and may be restored under policy; prisons total your time monthly and give you records; you can use the grievance process; if placed in non‑disciplinary segregation, you may be put in Class 2.
