Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee tightens rules for drop-in child care. A drop-in center is a facility that cares for 15 or more children who are not related to the primary caregiver. Each child can stay no more than 9 hours per day during Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., and no more than 18 hours per week. Centers can instead operate Friday 6:00 p.m. to Sunday 10:00 p.m., but total care per child cannot exceed 20 hours that week. Snow days do not count toward these limits. Staff training at these centers is limited to basic health and safety and how to spot and report child abuse or neglect.
