If a school district installs cameras on the outside of school buses, it must set how footage is reviewed and enforced. The district must either sign an agreement with local police to review evidence and enforce, or authorize school safety staff to review videos. Authorized school safety staff can decide if a stop-arm violation happened and can issue notices of violation or citations. Districts may let only certified law-enforcement officers, including school resource officers, review footage, authorize school safety staff, or use both at the same time. The law defines school safety personnel to include school safety officers, school resource officers, and other district employees or contractors whose jobs include student safety or school security.
