Beginning July 1, 2025, it is a crime to intentionally block a protective-services officer from getting in, out, or moving where they guard a protected person. That offense is a Class A misdemeanor, or a Class E felony if you were a threat to that person’s safety. It is also a Class E felony to intentionally refuse to leave an area a protective-services officer has closed to keep the protected person safe. The law explains who is covered: Highway Patrol, commissioned Homeland Security officers, and other police helping them, and people the commissioner of safety authorizes for active protection.
