Beginning July 1, 2025, the law expands what counts as organized retail crime. It targets people who knowingly disable anti-theft or inventory devices, or set off or tamper with fire alarms to aid theft. Using online marketplaces or social media to sell stolen goods, returning stolen or fake goods, holding stolen store goods to resell, or using special tools to steal now count. Skimming card data to defraud, or possessing 10 or more fraudulently obtained access devices (including gift cards) with intent to defraud, is included. If property is destroyed or a weapon is used during the crime, punishment goes up one classification.
