Beginning July 1, 2025, schools can count up to four hybrid days toward the 180 required school days. Directors may use hybrid days during dangerous or extreme weather or other emergencies. Hybrid means some students are in class and some learn remotely that same day. If a school uses four, it can ask the Commissioner of Education for more days during a natural disaster or serious illness outbreak.
Beginning July 1, 2025, schools must provide a student’s IEP services on hybrid days. Required supports remain available even when some learning is remote.
Beginning July 1, 2025, hybrid days must give kindergarten at least 4 hours of instruction and grades 1–12 at least 6.5 hours. Schools must confirm each student’s daily participation by visual, verbal, or written check-in and decide excused versus unexcused absences. Truancy steps still apply during remote time. Schools must follow all state and federal rules while using hybrid days.
