Beginning July 1, 2025, if you do not teach two straight years in a targeted setting, you must repay TSAC. The payback for each year not taught equals the total scholarship money you received divided by two. No interest is added. If you ever lose eligibility, you cannot regain this scholarship.
Beginning July 1, 2025, the scholarship pays $3,500 per academic year, if the legislature funds it. You can get it each year you are in an approved educator program. It ends at the earliest of: you earn your degree, you no longer meet program standards, or three years after the first term you received it. You can transfer to another eligible college and keep the award if you still meet the rules.
Beginning July 1, 2025, you must be in an approved educator program as a junior or senior, or be a post‑baccalaureate seeking your first license. You must be a U.S. citizen and have lived in Tennessee for at least one year before admission to your college. You must complete the TSAC application and sign a note to teach two straight years in a targeted Tennessee public or charter school. The law uses the state’s existing definition to decide which colleges count.
