Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee makes it a felony to knowingly put a child in immediate danger. This includes danger of death, injury, or physical or mental harm. The crime is a Class E felony, or a Class B felony if the child is eight (8) years old or younger. Unlawfully exposing a child to fentanyl, carfentanil, remifentanil, alfentanil, thiafentanil, or any fentanyl derivative or analogue counts as endangerment. Lab tests of the child’s blood, hair, fingernail, urine, or another body sample must show the drug in the child’s body.
