5 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.
Beginning July 1, 2025, people may give reasonable, non-emergency first aid to a minor who seems sick or hurt. Examples include dressing small wounds, applying topical creams, giving fluids or ice, and simple health checks. This clarifies what help school staff, caregivers, and health workers can give.
Beginning July 1, 2025, a health care provider may screen a child for trafficking, brutality, neglect, or abuse when the provider reasonably believes the child may be a victim. The provider uses reasonable medical judgment based on facts known at the time. The screening helps decide if a report must be made under state mandatory reporting laws.
Beginning July 1, 2025, licensed school counselors and school psychologists may provide preventative and developmental counseling under state law. The law confirms this work is within their role.
Beginning July 1, 2025, when the district sends a consent request about recording students, officials may record your child at school without your prior consent. The school must get your consent before it publishes any video or audio of your child. This covers recordings during class or school activities.
Beginning July 1, 2025, absences for religious reasons count as excused. A school-approved activity tied to instruction can also be excused. If a child misses 20 or more days for religion in a school year, the parent may have to meet with the school. This applies to students, parents, and local districts.
