Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee sends sales and use taxes from new or used tire transactions to the state highway fund. For the 2025-2026 fiscal year, no more than $80 million can go to the highway fund under this rule; any extra follows the old allocation rules. Money from two past sales tax rate increases does not move. The 1992 education-directed increase and the 2002 raise from 6% to 7% keep going to their original programs, including education.
