Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee sets new time limits to sue or bring cases for child sexual abuse. For abuse on or after that date, you have the later of two deadlines. You have 30 years after you turn 18. If an injury or illness was not known then, you have 3 years from when you discover it. The law also limits an older timing rule to acts from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2025.
Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee changes deadlines to charge certain crimes against or involving minors. For offenses from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2025, charges can start until 25 years after the victim turns 18. For offenses on or after July 1, 2025, charges can start until 30 years after the victim turns 18. These rules also reach some offenses before July 1, 2019, unless the case was already time-barred then. If charges start after that limit, prosecutors must show admissible, credible corroborating evidence.
