Beginning July 1, 2025, courts must suspend a minor’s driving for one year when the case ends with the disposition in § 39-17-308(d)(2). A judge may allow a restricted license only for a juvenile adjudicated delinquent for § 39-17-308(a)(5) with no prior adjudication for that same offense. The restricted license allows driving to and from school during regular hours, to and from and while working at a regular job, and to and from church. It does not allow trips to social events or extracurricular activities. The court order must list allowed times and places and becomes part of the judgment. The juvenile has 10 days to bring a certified copy of the order and a $20 fee to the Department of Safety; the department issues the restricted license if age and testing rules are met. Until the card is issued, the certified order can serve as the license. These rules apply to acts committed on or after July 1, 2025.
