Beginning January 1, 2027, any private employer with at least one employee must follow E-Verify rules for new hires. If a final order tells you to show compliance, you must send proof to the Commissioner within 45 days. If you do not, the state asks your local government to suspend your business license. For a first or second violation, the suspension lasts until you fix the problem (or until any overlapping suspension under §50-1-103(e)(1)(B) or (e)(1)(C) ends). For a third or later violation, the suspension is permanent. These rules apply to conduct and employees hired on or after January 1, 2027.
