Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.

Annual licenses and fees for farm businesses

Manufacturers that distribute liming materials must apply each year on the commissioner’s form and pay a fee set by rule. Facilities that need this state license must also file a yearly application on a commissioner‑approved form and pay a fee for each facility. Exact fee amounts are set later by rule.

New milk sampler and tester licenses

If you buy or receive milk or cream and pay based on its makeup, you must be or hire a licensed milk sampler. You must also use a licensed milk tester for official analysis. Applicants must prove honesty and skill, often by exam, before getting a license. Tester licenses must be posted at the place of business. Sampler and tester licenses expire each year, are not transferable, and fees are set by rule. A licensed tester may also serve as a sampler.

Standard yearly schedule for agriculture licenses

Most Tennessee Department of Agriculture licenses that last a year or more now follow one schedule. They expire on June 30. To renew, you must file your renewal and pay the fee by July 1 of that year. Forestry licenses are not covered. The law also updates older sections by removing several fixed June 30 or July 1 dates and using an annual cycle.
