The law creates a Welcome Centers Division in the Department of Tourist Development. The commissioner can appoint its head. The division promotes Tennessee’s heritage, trains and staffs centers, and keeps sites safe and clean. The finance commissioner must move enough highway user tax money from the highway fund to pay the centers’ yearly costs. The Transportation Department helps with maintenance when both departments agree.
