The law creates a County Road Superintendent as the head of the county highway department. This office runs the building and upkeep of county roads and bridges under the Tennessee County Uniform Highway Law. The Bedford County Road Board keeps working until current members’ terms end, then the board ends. Older private acts from 1975 and 1989 that set past rules for roads are repealed.
Voters elect the County Road Superintendent in August 2028 and every four years after. Candidates must have at least five years of full-time highway or bridge construction work and be of good moral character. The superintendent’s pay follows general state law. The current superintendent stays until their term ends.
All changes in this act take effect only after a two‑thirds vote of the Bedford County legislative body. The presiding officer must proclaim the result and certify it to the Tennessee secretary of state. Without this approval, the act has no effect.
