The hospital board now holds regular meetings at least once each quarter. The board sets the meeting dates. This replaces the old rule that required monthly meetings.
The Henry County Commission appoints a hospital board of 3 to 7 members. Two trustees must be county commissioners; the rest must be Henry County citizens. Trustees serve four-year terms, staggered so no more than two end in a year. The Commission may recall any trustee with or without cause. If a vacancy or term end leaves fewer than three members, the Commission must appoint a successor within 90 days. If the board still has at least three members, filling that seat is optional, and the Commission may add members over time up to seven while keeping terms staggered. Current trustees keep serving until their term ends or a vacancy occurs.
The act repeals Section 4 of the 1953 private act that governed the hospital district. This deletion, made in 2025, removes whatever rules were in that section. It does not by itself add new funding, taxes, or benefits.
These changes take effect in Henry County only after a two-thirds vote of the county legislative body approves them. The presiding officer must proclaim the result and certify it to the Tennessee secretary of state. For the limited purpose of voting on approval, the act is effective when it becomes law.
