The mayor’s minimum annual salary is $18,200, paid monthly at $1,516.66. Each council member’s minimum annual salary is $1,800, paid monthly at $150. These rules apply in Red Boiling Springs only after a two-thirds vote of the city’s legislative body and certification to the Tennessee Secretary of State.
The mayor and council members can get paid back for expenses from doing city work. Repayment follows the city’s travel and reimbursement policy adopted by ordinance or council resolution. These reimbursements are available after a two-thirds local approval vote and certification to the Tennessee Secretary of State.
The city council can set its members’ salary and fringe benefits by ordinance. Any salary ordinance must follow Article XI, Section 9 of the Tennessee Constitution. The pay of current elected officials, including the mayor and council, cannot change before their term ends. These rules apply only after a two-thirds local approval vote and certification to the Tennessee Secretary of State.
