Vacancy and eligibility rules for Adamsville leaders

A city seat is vacant if the mayor or a commissioner resigns, dies, moves out of the city, or is removed under state law. The city commission must declare the vacancy. The remaining commissioners must appoint a qualified person under the charter, who serves until the next regular city election. Voters then fill any remaining unexpired term at that election. If commissioners do not act within 45 days, the mayor must appoint within 15 days. Anyone convicted of malfeasance or misfeasance in office, a felony, or a crime of moral turpitude cannot hold Adamsville city office for 10 years after conviction. This law takes effect only if approved by a two‑thirds vote of the city’s legislative body.
