Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Limits on final phone and internet bills

Beginning July 1, 2025, if you end phone, cable TV, internet, or broadband service, your final charges are capped. Cancel in the first half of a billing cycle, and the provider can only bill the rest of that cycle. Cancel in the second half, and the provider can bill the rest of that cycle plus up to one more cycle. The law defines a billing cycle and who counts as a service provider, including for-profit, nonprofit, or government providers.

Stronger enforcement, but minimum contract terms allowed

Starting July 1, 2025, breaking these billing rules is an unfair or deceptive act under Tennessee’s consumer law. Consumers and the state can seek penalties and relief when providers do not follow the rules. The law also lets providers include a minimum contract length in service agreements. You may have to keep service for that time or face the contract’s early‑end terms.
