The law defines animal chiropractic for non-human patients. It covers spinal, joint, and soft‑tissue manipulation, not surgery or drugs. The Board of Chiropractic Examiners sets training and sanitation rules, using AVCA or an approved equivalent. Beginning January 1, 2026, chiropractic physicians can apply for certification. The board lists certified providers on its website.
All chiropractic physicians must complete at least 12 hours of continuing education each year. Beginning January 1, 2026, certified animal chiropractors must also complete 6 hours in animal chiropractic. Certified providers need 18 hours total each year.
Beginning January 1, 2026, no one may advertise chiropractic care unless a licensed chiropractic physician provides or directs it. Tennessee veterinarians with current AVCA or IVCA certification may advertise that they are certified to provide animal chiropractic. Other licensed professionals can still do their work, but they may not advertise as chiropractic providers.
